Golf at the Olympics
The Olympics are taking place in Paris this week, and while we love watching golf on tour, you’ve got to admire all the sheer athleticism on display at the Olympic Games.
In the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo, Americans Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda both claimed Olympic Gold Medals in the men’s and women’s Golf Individual events, and golf is of course returning to the Olympics for this year too.
The Men’s golf event takes place from the 1st – 4th of August, with the women’s golf taking place on the following weekend from the 7th – 10th August.
Who's playing golf at the Olympics?
There are dozens of world-class golfers you could put forward to represent their countries in the Olympics, but there’s a specific qualifying process in place to allocate athletes.
As you can expect, qualifying to compete in golf at the Olympics is determined by ranking. The golf qualifying at this year’s Games is limited to 60 men’s and 60 women’s players as dictated by the Official World Golf Rankings.
The top 15 male and female players via World Rankings are eligible to compete, with up to a max of four players from a single country. After the top 15, the Olympic golf rankings consist of the top two eligible for each country following the world golf rankings.
As you can expect, there’s going to be some world-class talent competing for their countries. The American line up consists of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Nelly Korda, and Lilia Vu. Representing Great Britain are Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Charley Hull, and Georgia Hall.
Equipment is the key to performance
Being one of the best players in the world and representing your country must be such a thrill! But no matter your ability, if you’re playing with substandard equipment, you’re not going to be reaching your potential.
Cleveland makes exceptional golf clubs, and the ones we currently have in the pro shop are at the very cutting edge of modern putter tech. Without a solid golf putter in the bag, you could be falling short of scoring when it matters on the greens. Cleveland has engineered the clubs in the Frontline Elite range to give you the most out of your short game and have you feeling on top of the world.
Cleveland Frontline Elite putters
This club feels amazing to strike the ball with, which is largely down to Cleveland’s Tungsten SOFT technology. This construction allows for ball speed to be optimised across the face to ensure you’re making more consistent distances on your strikes. Each club in the set comes with either simple or high contrast alignment aids on the back of the clubhead. They also feature adjustable sole weights in the head that you can swap in and out to find your ideal sense of weighting.
Cleveland HB Soft 2 Milled putters
Another fantastic putter offering from Cleveland is the HB Soft 2 Milled. As the name implies, this putter has undergone a dynamic groove milling process across the face to make the striking area as responsive as possible. Cleveland has placed a 20g weight in the butt end of the shaft on longer putters to keep the feel as natural as possible when you’re moving through your putting stroke. There are 9 distinct models in the range, from blades to mid-mallets.
Cleveland makes exceptional golf putters, and we’re sure to have one in the pro shop just right for your golf game. If you’re thinking of adding a new putter to the bag but don’t know where to start, we’d be happy to offer you our expert advice.
